Jonesfield Corner and friends – Grassland gems under threat
About
Our first Spring tour takes us to a close set of three grasslands: Jonesfield Corner, Section G and Reid Street Grasslands, at the edge of Cairnlea.
Jonesfield Corner Grassland is threatened by proposed development. Federal and State authorities have already greenlighted the clearing of Section G for a large mixed-use development, and which includes a road to Jonesfield Corner that will facilitate the proposed clearing there.
The silver lining is that Reid Street is planned as an offset site for the destruction of Jonesfield Corner.
It’s all Striped Legless Lizard territory, Jonesfield Corner puts on a good early show of Creamy Candles, and Reid Street, which has some good biodiversity, had a burn last year so who knows what we’ll see!
Remember to wear closed shoes, dress sensibly for the weather and bring sunscreen and water!
There’s no difficult walking except over slightly rocky grassland.
We may be able to organise some carpooling from Ginifer Station. Tick the box on the registration form if that’s something you’d be interested in, as a driver or passenger.
