Damp coastal grassy ecosystems out east – rarest of the rare

Join us as we investigate The Inlets Waterway Reserve at Koo Wee Rup and Dalmore and go on a unique wild offtrack excursion into three grassland communities and complex estuary saltmarsh to reach natural meandering Goonum (Toomuc Creek) backed by contiguous swamp scrub of natural Kooweerup Swamp (4–5 hours return).
Kooweerup Swamp was once the largest swamp in Victoria.
We will see a great example of the Natural Damp Grassland of the Victorian Coastal Plains, about the rarest grassland community in Australia, listed as Critically Endangered, and with less than 100 ha surviving.
This tour is led by Jeff Yugovic, Senior Associate Ecologist with Biosis, and author of the definitive study of Koo Wee Rup Swamp.
We’re capping numbers of visitors to 25. And we’ll have a waitlist. If you register but realise you can’t make it, please cancel your registration so someone else can join us.
The walking isn’t difficult, but it will be wet in places.
BYO lunch. Remember to bring gumboots, dress sensibly for the weather and bring sunscreen and water!
Access is by turning left off South Gippsland Highway immediately after Cardinia Creek bridge and parking on the exotic grass.
