Walk Talk and Gawk - the lands and waters of the proposed wallan wallan Regional Parkland
About
Join us on a journey across the Upper Merri Creek catchment, north of Melbourne. We'll learn about the vast Herne's Swamp, ephemeral wetlands, waterbirds, ancient volcanos, stoney rises, remnant redgum plains, the Merri Gorge, and the work being undertaken to restore the ancient ecologies.
This tour will include driving and walking at various locations, and will run from 10am to 3pm.
This will include a few short uphill walks to see some spectacular views of the proposed Parkland, and we'll be walking over uneven, grassy ground as well as on compacted dirt/gravel tracks throughout the day. There will be public toilets at several stops, but not all locations have toilet access. If you have any questions about the track conditions or any access needs please contact activities@vnpa.org.au.
We'll meet at Hadfield Park, on the Windham St side, Wallan, then carpool and drive to our first location. If carpooling is something you’d be interested in, as a driver or passenger, please let us know by selecting your response on the registration form.
Remember to wear closed shoes, dress sensibly for the weather and bring sunscreen and water! Bring your lunch, which we'll stop to eat along the way.
The tour has been organised by the wallan wallan Regional Parkland Alliance, which is supported by the VNPA. The tour will be led by ecological restoration conservationist Michael Longmore (Merri Creek Management Committee), and ecological historian Paul Macgregor (BEAM Mitchell Environment Group). Denise and Anthony, volunteer leaders with VNPA's bushwalking program, will be managing the bookings for this activity and will be in touch to confirm your registration.
The tour is part of the campaign to get the Planning Minister to approve the Parkland.
