Grassy Tour – South Sunbury Rail + Banchory Grove NCR
About
Two grasslands we've never visited. Both are good biodiverse remnants. A rail line and a Nature Conservation Reserve.
This Grassy Tour runs for 2.5 hours.
We'll start at the Sunbury rail line, where we'll hear from Ben Roberts at Metro Trains about their management plans for cap and sow restoration to connect the best pathes of grassland.
Then we'll drive in convoy to Banchory Grove Nature Consevation Reserve, and park on Victoria Grove near Calder Park Drive. We should arrive there about 11:15am (if you can't make the first half of the tour). The grassland is managed by Parks Victoria and was burnt last year, so we should see a good show of flowers. The best bit is up the top of the hill, a short hike, where you'll be rewarded with great grassland and great views!
We may be able to organise some carpooling from Sunbury Station, with drop off at Watergradens Station. Tick the box on the registration form if that’s something you’d be interested in, as a driver or passenger.
Remember to wear closed shoes, dress sensibly for the weather and bring sunscreen and water! No toilets at either site.
